The horses of Fukushima play an important role in an annual festival which honours their contribution to mankind. They almost died in the tsunami, suffered from radiation exposure and were shut away for weeks, nearly starving to death. Yoju MATSUBAYSHI followed them after the catastrophe of 2011.

About Yoju MATSUBAYASHI
松林要樹

Yoju MATSUBAYASHI, born in Fukuoka in 1979, graduated in 2004 from Japan Academy of Moving Image with his film DEAR RESPECTFUL HUMANS. After graduation, he joined the Fukushima-based Peshawar-kai NGO and did relief work in Afghanistan. In 2011, his first documentary about Fukushima, FUKUSHIMA: MEMORIES OF A LOST LANDSCAPE (NC ’12), was invited to several international film festivals. THE HORSES OF FUKUSHIMA won the “Muhr Asia Africa Documentary Prize” at the Dubai International Film Festival 2013.
