Nippon Rising Star Award
This year’s NIPPON RISING STAR AWARD goes to Kosuke HAYASHI. For the third time, we are presenting this honorary award to an exceptional up-and-coming talent in the Japanese film industry. HAYASHI has worked as a background artist and art director on numerous successful animated films, including IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD by Sunao KATABUCHI and THE BOY AND THE HERON by Hayao MIYAZAKI. The NIPPON RISING STAR AWARD will be presented by KYOCERA Document Solutions.
At the festival, we will show three animated films in which he was involved: THE IMAGINARY (2023), MODEST HEROES (2018), and the extended version of IN THIS CORNER (AND OTHER CORNERS) OF THE WORLD (2019). In addition to the Q&A sessions after the screenings, HAYASHI will talk in detail about his work on Saturday, May 31, at 4:00 p.m. in the Film Talk. A selection of his background images will be exhibited in the foyer of the Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 1, at 7:45 p.m. at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm. We thank the Riekeles Gallery for the generous support.
